KLANG: The Klang Municipal Council is offering traffic offenders a 30 to 50 per cent discount on their compounds from today until Thursday.
Council president Mislan Tugiu said in a statement that the campaign would help ease the burden of offenders and gave them the opportunity to settle the compounds before legal action is taken.
"We have records of stubborn offenders who have yet to pay up. If they do not seize this chance to settle the compounds, we will then obtain a court summons. We will not compromise on this matter anymore.
"We do not intend to punish the offenders but merely educate them to be more disciplined and ensure that they adhere to the council's regulations which is aimed at curbing traffic congestion," he said.
The council has plans to publish the names of offenders and their vehicle registration numbers in newspapers as well as the council's website.
Apart from that, the council is also planning to work with the Road Transport Department to bar offenders who have yet to settle their compounds from renewing their road tax.
In the meantime, the council is also in the process of facilitating court action against an estimated 2,000 offenders this month alone.
