KLANG: The upgrading work at the Klang end of the Federal Highway will be delayed again to September.
The project, on the 600m stretch from Bulatan 100 to the Kota Bridge, involves building a flyover to ease traffic congestion in the royal town.
It was supposed to have been completed by the end of last year. However, it was announced early this year that the project could not be completed on time and had to be delayed to June.
State Local Government, Study and Research committee chairman Ronnie Liu said the Selangor government was informed last week by the contractor, Spaz Sdn Bhd, that the project would only be completed in September.
The company, the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) and Selangor Works Department were invited to the weekly Selangor Economy Action Council meeting to brief Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and the state executive council (exco) on the development of the flyover project.
“It is bad news for Klang folk, that the project would to be delayed by nine months,” Liu told reporters on Tuesday.
He said the state exco was told that the delay was due to unavoidable circumstances and underground work.
“We are not satisfied with the explanation and want the contractor to speed up its work,” he said.
He added that the state government could not do anything more than advise the contractor to speed up work, as it was a project that came under the purview of the Federal Government.
