ALOR STAR: A youth, detained and sentenced to 100 hours of community service for motorcycle theft last month, has been detained again -- this time, on suspicion of operating a "chop shop".

Police got wind of the 20-year-old youth's activities after they detained a 19-year-old suspect for having a stolen motorcycle in Kampung Lubuk Kawah, near Jitra, last Friday.

Kubang Pasu district police chief Superintendent Sawaludin Hamenudin said the youth would buy stolen motorcycles before dismantling the machines to sell them as parts.
