Motorists will have a smoother ride on the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) with the opening of a flyover connecting Kelana Jaya and Kepong yesterday.
Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak) communications head Bhavani Krishna Iyer said the flyover was the first phase of the RM133mil LDP-Taman Tun Dr Ismail Inter-change upgrading project.
“We will now move on to the final phase of building an underpass for uninterrupted travel from the Sprint highway into LDP to head towards Sungai Buloh and Kepong,” Bhavani said.
She said the narrow slip road along Jalan SS21/44 would now be closed to traffic for the next 12 months.
“Since the Petaling Jaya City Council (MPBJ) has denied us the use of a green lung along Jalan SS21/44 for a temporary slip road to be built, the existing one from Kelana Jaya towards Bandar Utama will have to be closed,” said Bhavani.
Traffic from Kelana Jaya to Bandar Utama will be diverted onto the new flyover, while those from Kelana Jaya travelling into TTDI could still use the right turn at the traffic lights.
The concessionaire had applied to use the land located in Jalan SS21/31 and Jalan SS21/44 that fell under the council’s jurisdiction to build a slip road for public use.
However, after complaints from the residents associations and business owners, Litrak resumed work last August, but only within their right-of-way and not on MBPJ’s land.
The next stage of construction involves building a two-lane underpass for traffic coming from TTDI heading to Kepong and would bypass the current traffic lights system.
