A FLYOVER connecting Jalan Mahkota in Taman Maluri and Jalan 4/91 Taman Shamelin Perkasa is now under way.
Costing RM59.5mil, the project is to provide a direct connection and shorten the distance between Taman Maluri and Taman Shamelin Perkasa.
The 250m-long flyover will have four lanes.
As part of the project package, a two-lane slip road from Jalan 1/91 to Jalan Jejaka will also be built, as well as a traffic lights junction (for right turning only) above the flyover from Jalan 1/94 to Jalan 4/91 Taman Shamelin Perkasa.
The traffic lights junction in Jalan Jejaka and Jalan Mahkota, Taman Maluri, will also be upgraded. Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuad Ismail said the project should be completed by April 2012, and that the contractor Tetuan Sharqiah Holdings Sdn Bhd has been appointed for the project on a “design and build” basis.
“At the same time, there is also a privatisation project of a government road, part of which would interface with our project here.
“So the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would like work to be done and coordinated simultaneously so that residents will not be inconvenienced.
“We have handed over a portion of this Pudu Ulu recreational park to help facilitate the project work but it will be returned and revived once the work is completed,” he said.
Also present at the site visit was Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai.
Tan said the mayor’s call for the two road projects to be carried out simultneously was in the interests of the public, as Jalan 4/91 was often congested due to the four schools in the area.
“Congestion is unavoidable but it should be minimised. I hope by 2012, the congestion will be greatly reduced,” said Tan.
