Parking woes for Sungai Long folk

BANDAR Sungai Long residents are facing problems such as haphazard parking, illegal banners and uncollected rubbish at the commercial area in Section 1.

Fok A. C, who founded the Bandar Sungai Long Residents Association, said the haphazard parking was a daily problem that they had to put up with.

“Although there are parking bays across the street, people will double park along Jalan SL 1/4 to go to the restaurants and banks.

“The enforcement officers should do their job to reduce the indiscriminate parking here,” he said.

Foo Nyet Yee, who lives at the Scot Pine Condo near the commercial area, said a few months ago, the drain covers were removed so that the drains could be cleaned. She was unsure who was responsible for cleaning of the drains.

However, the workers did not put back the covers after cleaning the drains.

“Since I moved here 11 years ago, this is the first time that the drain has been cleaned but it made the situation worse.

“Rubbish gets into the uncovered drains during rain. It defeats the purpose of the clean-up operation.

“The rubbish attracted cockroaches and rats. We had to hire a pest control company to help remedy the situation,” she said.

She added that it was dangerous to leave the drains uncovered.

“My nephew fell into the uncovered drain one night as the streets were unlit.”

Tony Mak, special assistant to Dusun Tua assemblyman Ismail Sani, proposed for a one-way traffic flow and creating more bays to overcome the parking woes.

He feels that issuing summonses was only a short-term solution.

“There is a land reserved for parking but only part of it is used.

“The Kajang Municipal Council should finish the work as the vacant land could accommodate at least 15 cars.
