SHAH ALAM: Police have identified 52 accident-prone hot spots in Selangor during Ops Sikap 22 held in conjunction with the Hari Raya festive holidays.
Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the police would monitor the hot spots closely in view of the state having the highest number of registered motorists in the country.
“There are 17 highways criss-crossing Selangor, and this would result in a high amount of traffic volume.
“We will monitor these locations closely during Ops Sikap 22, which will go on until Sep 17,” he said when met after launching the state-level Ops Sikap programme at the Selangor police headquarters Friday.
DCP Khalid said police would conduct mobile patrol and static roadblocks at 39 road stretches during the operation.
They are Jalan Shah Alam to Kuala Selangor, Km27 Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Seremban, Km4 MRR2 Taman Melawati Gombak-Plaza Tol Gombak, Batu 14 Jalan Kuala Selangor, Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, Jalan Kapar-Jalan Meru, Km64-Km70 Sabak Bernam, Jalan Teluk Intan-Klang and Km34-Km60 Jalan Klang-Banting-Port Dickson.
DCP Khalid said that more than 800 men, including Rela members, would be deployed throughout the state to ensure the Ops Sikap runs smoothly.
“However, we can only do so much to prevent accidents and fatalities on the roads.
“The drivers themselves have to do their part as well,” he said, adding that poor driver attitude were one of the biggest cause of accidents.
