IN response to “Be clear about use of emergency lanes” (The Star, Oct 19). I propose that the emergency lanes on both sides of the highway, or for that matter on all dual carriageways, be moved to the middle of the highway, barricaded and opened during emergencies for authorised vehicles.
By closing up the emergency lanes, they then cannot be encroached on and shall be truly used as emergency lanes.
Also, it could serve as a buffer zone preventing vehicles from crashing into the other lane and hitting on-coming traffic.
With this, should an accident happen, emergency vehicles can come from either direction to render assistance.
