MALACCA: Drivers of official state government cars and petrol kiosk operators are expected to be in for a grilling after the Auditor-General discovered that the drivers were using too much petrol.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said that drivers concerned and the petrol kiosks operators would be summoned to brief the state’s executive council next week on the discrepancies.
A sampling audit of petrol used by drivers of official state cars revealed that some drivers had pumped petrol twice within a short period, with one case involving RM198 worth of petrol pumped in 19 seconds.
Also raised in the report was the high maintenance cost of 51 official cars amounting to some RM5.1mil over the last five years.
The audit revealed that some of the cars were purchased at RM110,000 while their maintenance costs were 281% of their purchase price.
On a separate matter, Ali Rustam said the state government was considering replacing the Proton Perdana with Honda as official state government cars due to their high maintenance cost.
