JOHOR BARU: The RM977mil Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) highway project by Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB) will be opened to motorists by February 2012.
Works on the 8.1 km-long highway undertaken by the company’s subsidiary MRCB Linkaran Selatan Sdn Bhd (MLSSB) which started in 2008 is 60% completed.
“We are on track to completing the project on time despite some delays due to inclement weather,” MRCB chief executive officer Mohamed Razeek Hussain said in a statement yesterday.
He said construction activities were moving at an accelerated pace involving 500 workers and 30 sub-contractors who worked round-the-clock to complete the highway on time.
Mohamed Razeek said once opened to motorists, the highway would dramatically cut travelling time from Johor Baru to the Pandan interchange and help to disperse traffic from the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Bukit Chagar to all other major roads in Johor Baru.
The EDL links the CIQ to the North-South Expressway via the Pandan interchange; the dual three-lane highway is toll free, except for traffic going to Singapore.
