KUALA LUMPUR: RapidKL has introduced a new paperless ticketing system on its buses.
The transit card works similarly to the Touch ‘n Go system whereby the user just needs to touch the card on a reader to activate payment – once per entry and exit.
Prasarana Bus Division group director Datuk Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain said the transit card system, an initiative of the Government Transformation Programme’s (GTP) Urban Public Transport National Key Results Area (NKRA), was implemented as a convenient and efficient payment method for public transport services. RapidKL is a subsidiary of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd (Prasarana).
In addition to usage on buses, the transit card can also be used on the monorail, light rail transit (LRT) and park-and-ride facilities – all of which are operated by RapidKL.
The transit card can be reloaded with credits at machines available in RapidKL buses. It can also be reloaded using ATMs or at convenience stores and any location that provides Touch ‘n Go reload facilities.
Each transit card has a global positioning system that ensures accurate fare deduction based on origin and destination locations.
