BINTULU: The state government will continue to build new roads and upgrade existing ones to accelerate the socio-economic growth of Sarawak, said Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor here yesterday.
He said many investors were keen to invest in Sarawak and the government wanted to ensure there was good infrastructure to woo new businesses. For example, he said, a good road system was necessary to spur the development of an aluminium smelter in Mukah.
“We study the needs of industries and the people to ensure we keep up with the pace of development.” He said a good road system was also vital to provide access to tour ist destinations in the state. “We need good roads to link economic centres with towns, ports and airpor ts.
“A good road system encourages the setting up of more businesses by local entrepreneurs and foreign investor s,” he said when inspecting the upgrading of the Tatau-Bintulu road in Tatau Baru here on Monday.
The 60km stretch, expected to be completed in two months, costs RM10 million.
