Dept head: Bus counter location a joint decision

PETALING JAYA: The current counter location for individual bus operators at the Integrated Transport Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) was agreed upon by the government agencies, bus operators and the terminal management.

Terminal manager Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd apologised for its earlier statement, which it deemed as inaccurate, that the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) had decided on the relocation of the additional counters.

“The decision to move the additional counters from its initial location was agreed upon collectively by the parties involved,” said its corporate communications head Badrul Izhan Yeop Abdullah.

He retracted his earlier statement that SPAD had made the decision.

He added that the relocation had been done primarily on the basis of design and safety issues.

More than 10 bus operators with their own e-ticketing systems have expressed unhappiness with their counter location.

They claimed its “unstrategic” placement had resulted in a drop of up to 30% in sales.

Initially designed to be located directly opposite the TMAS counters in the main hall, the counters were relocated to one end of the terminal.

SPAD: Contractor decided on location of counters

Postby admin » Fri Apr 15, 2011 3:54 am

PETALING JAYA: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) said the present counter location for bus operators with individual e-ticketing systems at the Integrated Transport Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) was decided by Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd.

SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Nur Kamal said the original decision was to locate the additional ticketing counters exactly opposite the Maju TMAS counters to ensure ease of access and equal opportunity for all operators at the terminal.

“However, Maju Holdings, which is the contractor for ITT-BTS, decided to change the location of the additional counters away from the existing e-ticketing counters,” he said in a statement, adding that it was done on the advice of its architect based on safety requirements.

Mohd Nur said it was therefore wrong for Maju Holdings to say SPAD had decided on the counter relocation.

“It is irresponsible to tell operators to go after SPAD over this issue,” he said, referring to an earlier statement by the terminal manager which was retracted soon after.

Mohd Nur said SPAD had been tasked to head an operational readiness task force to decide on the construction of additional counters.

The task force comprised representatives from various government agencies, including the Transport Ministry, the Federal Territories and Urban Well-Being Ministry, Pemandu and the Property Management Division (BPH) of the Prime Minister's Department.

He said the task force was aware that many bus operators were unhappy over the poor location which had led to a drop of up to 30% in sales.

The operators are appealing for around 16 new counters to be built along the corridor of the executive lounge near the terminal's arrival area as well as the entrance for the arrival of LRT and KTM passengers.
