The flyover connecting the Bukit Jalil Highway and Taman Serdang Raya in Seri Kembangan will be completed in November, after much delay.
Serdang parliamentary liaison officer Datuk Yap Pian Hon said the previous contractor was terminated in July last year when it failed to deliver the project in time.
“The project which is 70% completed was handed over to another contractor on March 29,” he said.
The project by the Works Ministry to alleviate the congestion from the highway into Seri Kembangan started in December 2006.
The queue could be one or 2km long during peak hours.
When the flyover is completed, motorists will no longer need to wait at the traffic lights to get into Jalan Serdang Raya.
Yap believes it will ease the congestion, but he is also worried that accidents will occur if motorists choose to speed on the road.
“According to a road safety audit report, the 5km Jalan Serdang Raya has 62 exits on both sides. Therefore, the state Public Works Department (JKR) should look at upgrading the road and adjusting the traffic system now, before the flyover is completed,” he said.
On another matter, Yap announced that the new secondary school in Seri Kembangan, SMK Desa Serdang, would be completed next month.
He proposed to the Selangor and Hulu Langat Education Departments to start using the school in July this year.
“Students have to travel far to attend the other secondary schools here, including SMK Seri Kembangan, Sri Serdang and Sri Indah. With the opening of this new school, the burden on the parents can be reduced,” he said.
