SHAH ALAM: About 50 automotive workshops nationwide are expected to benefit from the launch of the Automotive Workshop Modernisation Project (Atom).

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said through this effort, all workshops will have a makeover.

“The modernisation of these workshops are part of the Government's efforts to transform workshops across the country into systematic and profitable operations,” he said yesterday after launching the pilot project at AMR Technologies Fastec here.

Ismail Sabri said the new look should boost customers' confidence to send their vehicles to any workshop, thus increasing revenue for operators.

He said the Government had allocated RM30mil as soft loan for this year, of which selected workshop owners would be allowed to borrow up to RM100,000 to improve their facilities.

Ismail Sabri said Bank Rakyat would handle the loan, which is offered at a 3% interest.
