Councillor Tan Boon Wah proposed to construct a loop linking Jalan Besar in Sungai Long to the Silk Highway, heading to Balakong and Seri Kembangan, to alleviate the congestion in Batu 11.
However, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) said MPKj had to fund the project. As a result, the council’s infrastructure committee has set aside the proposal.
Councillor Cheong Siow Foon said another alternative was to ask the highway concessionaire to make a U-turn in front of the Sungai Long toll plaza for motorists coming from Sungai Long heading towards Seri Kembangan.
“Although the route may be slightly longer, there would be no congestion It will also not affect the toll collection because this stretch is toll-free,” he said.
Lee also requested Hassan to ask the state government for more allocation under the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) to repair roads.
She said the council would need about RM6.4mil for road work but there was a deficit of RM4mil.
“We received RM5.5mil last year and RM7.5mil in 2009. If RM7.5mil is allocated to us this year, RM5mil could be used for road work identified by five assemblymen. Then we would only be left with RM2.5mil,” she said.
