Motorcyclist Hakime Faizal considered himself lucky to survive a crash after he was thrown off his machine when it hit a pothole and landed on a divider at the Jalan Sungai Buloh-Subang and Jalan Lapangan Terbang Subang junction.
The nasty accident occurred at midnight recently when the 32-year-old man was riding home in the rain after attending a family gathering at Denai Alam.
He suffered cuts on his body and face.
Hakime’s wife, Salmiah Muhammad Jalil, 34, said it was lucky that her husband he did not land on the other side of the road or else he could have been hit by oncoming vehicles.
Salmiah witnessed the accident as she was in a car with her in-laws and seven-month-old son, tailing Hakime from a distance.
“It was raining then and the area was rather dark. Rain water must have filled up the pothole and Hakime could not have possibly seen it. He rode straight into it,” she said.
Kuala Lumpur Bikers Club president Maznah Zulkifli said the pothole at the junction posed a serious danger to roadusers, especially motorcyclists.
“We want the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to resurface the road as soon as possible to prevent further accidents there,” he said.
A police officer, ASP Izham Hamzah, who frequently uses the road, said the number of potholes at the junction had increased from one to three in the last five months and nothing was being done by MBPJ to resurface the road.
He said MBPJ must take immediate action to ensure the safety of motorists using the road.
