RAWANG: Foreigners driving on Malaysian roads will have to think twice about committing traffic offences, especially speeding, now that the Royal Malaysia Police are equipped with the Mobile Card Acceptance Device (CAD) to detect offenders.

Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid said the device used radio frequency to update information on offences by committed by foreign drivers, thus enabling the police to issue them summonses when caught.

"We cannot issue them summonses by post or notices because we do not have a database on foreign vehicles.

"However, with information fed into the CAD system, they will definitely be booked the second time they enter the country," he told reporters after witnessing an anti-speeding operation at KM444 of the North-South Highway near here Wednesday.

He was refuting claims by Malaysians that foreigners were acting like "kings of the road" while driving in Malaysia because they felt they could get away with it.
