IF you happened to have had to attend an emergency outstation assignment during the recent Deeparaya holidays, then you would have faced the mother of all frustrations travelling on the North-South Highway.
An accident, a vehicle on fire, inconsiderate motorists and the sheer volume of cars would have ensured that even if you had travelled at 3am, you might not have reached your destination on time.
Malaysia gravely needs an alternative north-south highway, just like Penang critically needs another bridge.
I understand that there is a proposed West Coast Highway (as indicated on many road maps) that runs parallel to the North-South Highway, but has yet to be implemented.
Perhaps our Government can look at fast-tracking this project, as the balik kampung phenomenon happens every festive season and during long weekends.
