PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Council of Justices of Peace is seeking the public’s help to report motorists who display the “JP” emblem on their vehicles despite a ban by the Sultan of Selangor.
The council voiced its concern on the rampant use of the emblem despite Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah disallowing it eight years ago.
“We urge the public to contact our headquarters if they spot any vehicle including motorcycles using the emblem,” council president Datuk Seri Mahamad Fathil Mahmood said during a press conference yesterday to announce the council’s upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
About 1,000 orphans, senior citizens, single mothers and the disabled will be given donations by the Sultan who will launch the event at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre on Oct 5.
Mahamad Fathil said they had numerous complaints that many, including those impersonating JPs, were still using the emblem.
“We are doing a proper audit to ensure this does not occur in Selangor,” he said, adding that the council was in the midst of finding a solution to control the use of the emblem.
Only the Sultan, Raja Muda and members of the royal household, royal council, state executive councillors, Orang Besar Daerah, Members of Parliament and state assemblymen are allowed to display the emblem on their vehicles.
The decision came following complaints that some motorists had displayed the emblem to hoodwink police and Road Transport Department officers into not taking action against them.
