The long wait for a link from Jalan Putra Permai to Maju Expressway (MEX) in Seri Kembangan is still not over yet.

Serdang MCA chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong has urged the Federal Government to build the interchange to alleviate the traffic congestion at Jalan Besar.

“When the highway was planned, Taman Putra Permai was not developed. But today, there are more than 100,000 residents living in more than 50,000 houses in the township.

“This worsens the traffic along Jalan Besar during rush hours. A five-minute trip could take half-an-hour.

“According to a traffic study in 2007, about 400,000 vehicles use Jalan Besar every day,” he said.

He added that traders and motorists who double-park also contributed to the traffic congestion at Jalan Besar, which was originally built to cater for Seri Kembangan new village.

Liew said he had written to the Prime Minister’s Department in October 2009 to highlight the problem, and had had meetings with the Works Ministry twice.

“The cost was estimated at RM50mil,” he said.

Liew, who is also the Seri Kembangan state liaison officer, added that the MCA ministers would raise the issue in Cabinet.

“Seri Kembangan residents would reach the Kuala Lumpur in 15 minutes should the link exist,” he said.
