The Kampung Sungai Penchala Residents Assocation wants Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to reopen the access road from Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1 to Kampung Sungai Penchala.
The access road was closed using cement barriers by DBKL after residents of Jalan Datuk Sulaiman 1 protested against the use of their residential road several months ago by a developer.
Association chairman Datuk Abul Hassan Rashid said the access route was a public road and should not be closed.
“To build an alternative access route, DBKL has proposed to acquire eight lots of reserved land.
“To build a new route, they would have to spend RM6mil to acquire eight lots of Malay reserve land in Kampung Sungai Penchala. Why do they need to waste this money?” he asked during a protest held recently at the road barrier which was constructed by DBKL.
He added that DBKL also rejected a proposal by the developer who had agreed to refurbish the route for its project.
“They are misusing the Land Acquisition Act. If they accept the developer’s offer and remove the barriers, they do not have to acquire the land for a new route,” he said.
“We have brought up the issue to DBKL but there is still no response.
“If this issue is not resolved, we will not hesitate to take legal action,” he added.
Yahaya Arrifin, 59, an affected landowner, said they were protesting against the closure of the road as it was a public access.
“We will let the residents association talk to DBKL on the issue.
“If they do not take any action, we will remove the barriers ourselves,” he said.
Another affected landowner Nor Hasinah Mutahab, 42, said they could just open the road so that the eight plots would not be acquired.
