Residents associations in Bandar Sungai Long, Cheras, are requesting for a U-turn before the township toll plaza along the Silk Highway to ease congestion in the area.
Last month, eight residents associations from Bandar Sungai Long including Section 4, Section 8 and Section 9 (PalmWalk), wrote to the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) president Datuk Hassan Nawawi Abdul Rahman on the matter.
Bandar Mahkota Cheras Resi-dents Association chairman Tong Chee Kuan said the U-turn would help to ease congestion along Jalan Sungai Long, which is the only exit route now.
“Motorists from Bandar Mahkota Cheras and Bandar Sungai Long use this road to head to Serdang and Kuala Lumpur and it is congested in the morning.
“Although motorists will have to drive an extra 4km to make the U-turn they will have an alternative to get to Balakong and Kuala Lumpur,” Tong told reporters at the associations’s office in Bandar Mahkota Cheras.
MPKj councillors Lee Kee Hiong and Tan Boon Wah, who were also at the press conference, said the council had spoken to the concessionaire and written to the Malaysian Highway Authority.
“A traffic study will be carried out to determine the volume of traffic,” Lee said.
Lee said the council would upgrade the entrance to Bandar Mahkota Cheras at the intersection of Jalan Sungai Long and Persiaran Mohkota Cheras 2.
“The cost of upgrading the road is RM620,000 as utility lines have to be relocated.
