Residents want dirt road to be upgraded

MUAR: Residents want a dirt road linking Kampung Jawa near Panchor and Taman Pagoh Jaya along the Bukit Pasir Pagoh to be upgraded.

They said the dirt road, about two kilometres long and passed under the North-South Highway near the Pagoh-Tangkak R&R (rest and relax) area was their alternative road out of Kampung Jawa and Panchor.

Village headman Aladin Ahmad said during the floods in 2006 and 2007, army trucks used the dirt road to evacuate villagers from Kampung Jawa and surrounding villages to relief centres.

Since there is only one road to our village located near Sungai Muar, villagers were stranded in their homes during the flood.

“We could not go to the relief centres in Pagoh, so the army sent trucks and entered our village from Taman Pagoh Jaya to rescue the villagers,” he said.

Aladin said besides providing the village with another access road, it would also cut travelling time for residents around Panchor to go to Pagoh or Muar town.

He said at present it would take about 20 minutes for motorists to reach Panchor from the Pagoh-Muar road, but about five minutes only if they used the dirt road.

He said if the road was upgraded and tarred, Panchor residents could also go to the PLUS R&R area without entering the highway.

He said both the Pagoh-Yong Peng and the Pagoh-Tangkak R&Rs could be accessed from the interior roads and villagers liked to frequent them.

A Taman Pagoh Jaya resident, Lim Yen San said residents from the housing area could go to Panchor town to do their shopping if the dirt road was tarred.

He said the dirt road, which was filled with crevices, potholes and big cracks, was only suitable for those using motorcycles, four-wheel-drive vehicles or trucks.

“If it was upgraded, residents and schoolchildren in and around Panchor can go to Pagoh or the Muar town more easily.
