KUANTAN: Roads in six prominent areas here will be upgraded in stages by authorities.
Teruntum assemblyman Chang Hong Seong said the move was needed as the roads were uneven and could pose a threat to road users.
He said the areas were Air Putih, Sungai Isap, Taman Tas, Semambu, Sri Kuantan and parts of Beserah.
“In Sri Kuantan, there are 26 roads which need to be upgraded. We hope people will alert the local council if there are bad roads.
“I am sure the authorities will take prompt action to rectify the situation,” he said after visiting one of the sites here recently.
Responding to a question, Chang said the authorities could only tar and not dig up the old surfaces.
He said it would cost RM700,000 to tar 35km of roads.
“If we dig up old surfaces before tarring, an additional cost of 50% will be incurred,” he said in reply to a complaint that some roads were higher after resurfacing works.
Chang later visited a site near Jalan Darat Makbar where upgrading of drainage works was taking place.
He said that some of the drains were clogged and certain parts were uneven and caused flash floods.
