IPOH: Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement officers are going undercover to nab road offenders during Ops Sikap 22.

Perak RTD director Jaafar Mohamed said the officers would be in unmarked vehicles while patrolling Federal roads in Perak during the road campaign period, which started last week.

“They will be in civilian clothes,” he said here yesterday.

“The officers will take pictures of the offences committed.”

Summonses would subsequently be sent to the offenders.

He said the officers would be on the lookout for offenders who ran red lights, drove on emergency lanes, reckless driving, tail-gating and overtaking on double lines.

Jaafar said six teams of enforcement officers would patrol the 15 hotspots, or “death stretches”.

The hotspots, he said, include Jalan Ipoh-Lumut, Jalan Ipoh-Tanjung Malim, Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth, Jalan Taiping-Pantai Remis, Jalan Lumut-Sitiawan and Jalan Gerik-Jeli.

Jaafar also said that officers would be placed at bus terminals at Medan Gopeng in Ipoh, Kamunting Raya in Taiping, Lumut and Teluk Intan to conduct checks on bus drivers and their vehicles.

He added that the National Anti-Drugs Agency would take urine samples of express bus drivers.

Jaafar said heavy vehicles such as lorries and trailers that transported timber, construction materials and sand have been barred from using Federal roads on Sept 8, Sept 9, Sept 18 and Sept 19.

He said this was to ensure the roads would be less congested to enable other motorists to ply the road safely.

“Those who do not comply will have their vehicles and their goods seized and returned after the barred period,” he said.
