PETALING JAYA: Do not wait till the very last minute or for discount offers to pay your summonses, said Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar.
He added that such procrastination would only result in “extraordinary turnout”, causing long queues and hours of waiting.
“Even if you are waiting for discounts, you don’t have to wait for one-day discounts like this. You can put forward an appeal for discounts to your district police chief,” DCP Khalidtold reporters after launching the new traffic summons payment counter in The Curve shopping mall yesterday.
He explained that the payment counter was provided by the shopping mall, while the police provided the personnel.
The public thronged the traffic summons payment counter even before it opened at 10am to get a one-day 50% discount on selected traffic offences.
Abdullah Rahim, 63, from Petaling Jaya, waited for almost three hours and was only halfway in the queue.
“This is like double punishment for us. We have already committed the traffic offence and we are willing to pay for that. Now that we want to pay, we have to wait for so long,” he said, adding that he had to wait at a stuffy parking lot basement with poor ventilation.
Sales executive Ong Bee Chin, 38, said that while the move to encourage the public to pay up summonses was lauded, the wait was too much for her to bear.
