Seputeh folk want ramp to open

Postby admin » Thu Jan 28, 2010 4:50 am

THE Seputeh Residents Association (SRA) has protested the temporary closure of Jalan Syed Putra.

According to president Robert Quah, traffic coming into Taman Seputeh from Petaling Jaya using the Federal Highway will have to make a U-turn at Brickfields using the newly opened ramp.

He said that since the road closure, traffic diversion and the opening of the ramp on Jan 23, the traffic jam in the area has become worse, affecting some 10,000 residents staying in Taman Seputeh and its surrounding areas.

“Now, residents have to take a longer route and get stuck in the traffic jam for up to 45 minutes to get to their homes instead of the usual five minutes.

“I know that the traffic jam will get even worse during Chinese New Year when motorists will be parking along the road to shop at Mid Valley Megamall.

“At the U-turn at SK La Salle Brickfields 1, there is a massive traffic crawl almost daily for motorists turning into Taman Seputeh.

“The traffic only flows smoothly when the traffic police are there,” Quah said during a meeting with residents at Sri Tiara Apartments in Taman Seputeh recently.

In the protest letter, Quah added that he wanted the company building the ramp to open another ramp nearby, which is about 80% complete, to ease traffic congestion in the area.

SRA secretary Cynthia Hor said she had contacted Kuala Lumpur City Hall officers over the issue and was told that it was up to the company that built the ramp.

“We have given the company until Jan 26 to open up the new ramp to ease traffic congestion and there was no response so we resorted to organising this press conference.

“We only ask for them to complete and open up the ramp to traffic for Seputeh folks,” Hor said, adding that she had monitored the traffic at the U-turn and noted that about 300 cars used the road from midnight to 6am.

Hor added that if there was an emergency, a fire truck or an ambulance would find it difficult to make the U-turn at Brickfields. The protest letter was faxed to the company on Jan 26.
