PETALING JAYA: Signboards which tells motorists that they risk death if they drive carelessly will be set up at accident black spots on federal roads throughout the country.
The signboards, which say: Pandu Laju, Maut Menunggu (Death awaits if you speed) are meant as a reverse psychology tool to warn road users to drive carefully, a statement from Public Works Department (PWD) said.
It said the new signboards, along with speed limit signboards, would be set up at strategic locations.
“The signboards are part of the Road Safety and Monitoring Programme in conjunction with Chinese New Year.
“This programme is designed to help the police and the Transport Ministry to manage traffic during Ops Sikap 25, which began yesterday and ends on Jan 30,” the statement said yesterday.
PWD director-general Datuk Mohd Noor Yaacob said the department would study public feedback on the signboards.
“We will study the response before proceeding to come up with new slogans,” he added.
On another matter, PWD advised motorists heading to the east coast during the coming holiday period to use alternative routes to reduce congestion on federal roads.
Those using the Karak highway from the city to Kota Baru via Kuala Lipis should exit at Kampung Chinta Manis (Exit 813a) and go to Federal Route 1498.
