PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s expressways are ready to take on the extra volume during the coming Hari Raya exodus.

PLUS Expressway Bhd said the balik kampung rush along the North-South Expressway would be smoother because lane expansion works had been completed.

Its corporate communications department general manager Khali- lah Mohd Talha said the only stretch where there would be road diversions was at the Ipoh South toll plaza area for north-bound traffic.

Work at the stretch has also been halted for the period to ensure smoother traffic flow.

“There will be three lanes for 115km of the highway southbound from Sungai Besi to Ayer Keroh and three lanes for 83km of the highway northbound from Sungai Besi to Slim River,” she said when contacted.

She said a stop-work order had been issued from Sept 26 to Oct 6 for all normal maintenance work.

PLUS had earlier said an additional 200 tollbooths would be opened to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

Contra-flow for southbound traffic might be activated if required.

It also advised road users to follow its travel time advisory which was published in newspapers on Wednesday.
