The much-talked-about bus and taxi lane in Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Jalan Travers will be implemented this Saturday.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), in a press statement, confirmed the bus lane will be enforced beginning 8am. The new lane is for buses and taxis from the KL city centre heading towards Taman Seputeh and Bangsar.

The lane will begin at the intersection of Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4 and will go through Little India and head into Taman Seputeh and Bangsar through Jalan Travers.

The bus lane enforcement period will be from 6am to 8pm. With this new lane, all the parking bays along Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Little India will be removed.

Some 41 replacement bays have been provided at the back lanes of Jalan Tun Sambanthan, while an additional 54 bays have been placed at the back lanes of Little India and beside SMK La Salle.

In view of the new bays, all loading and unloading activities at the back lanes or the new bus and taxi lane can only be carried out from 8pm to 6am.

All buses are also not allowed to travel through Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad with the implementation of the lane.

Members of the public who wish to use the public bus services will have to wait for the buses at the Hong Leong Bank/Puteri Restaurant near the Jalan Tun Sambanthan and Jalan Tun Sambanthan 6 intersection.

Taxi users on the other hand have been advised to wait for taxis near the CIMB bank close to Jalan Tun Sambanthan 4.

Brickfields Rukun Tetangga chairman S.K.K Naidu said they were aware of the new lane and were briefed last week.

They said those living in Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad welcomed the news as it would reduce the traffic volume on the road.
