KUANTAN: The Pahang government and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) are discussing the best possible means to resolve the problems which led to Konsortium Transnasional Bhd's Cityliner halting its stage bus services to parts of the state.
“The problems are not limited to Pahang,” said state Housing, Public Amenities and Transportation Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Soffi Abdul Razak yesterday.
“It is a nationwide concern and should be dealt with long-term measures that are applicable to all the states,” he said. “The final decision lies with SPAD before measures taken are adopted at state-level.”
Mohd Soffi said the state government would not be pressured into taking interim measures after the services were stopped last Friday.
He suggested that SPAD set up a fund that would help subsidise Cityliner's services.
On claims that more than 1,000 passengers had been affected with Temerloh being the hardest hit, Mohd Soffi said he has yet to receive any complaint, but would look into the matter.
He added that many were caught by surprise last Friday, but there were other bus operators that were still plying the routes.
A check by The Star in Temerloh showed many commuters had resorted to using taxis to get to their destinations.
Temerloh Taxi Association deputy president Kamarul Effendi Amiruddin said: “They had no choice. Taxi drivers are now in demand and some make four or more trips a day.”
