The state government may have to compensate the company contracted to collect the parking fee at the Penang Botanic Gardens on Jalan Kebun Bunga.

Ng Wei Aik (DAP-Komtar) said this was because residents in the area had been complaining about the fee collection.

“The contract was awarded by the Penang Botanic Gardens Department through open tender to the company to collect parking fees from Nov 1.

“The tender was called by the department without consulting the state executive councillor in charge of the portfolio,” he said while debating the Supply Bill 2012 at the state assembly.

Ng said the company would pay RM8,888 a month to the department to be allowed to collect the parking fees. He also suggested that a special zoning be allocated for entertainment outlets to prevent any disturbance to nearby residents.
