THE state government is deciding between three alternatives to alleviate traffic congestion on Jalan Ayer Tawar.
State Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the Public Works Department (JKR) had been directed to complete separate feasibility studies on each option soon to allow the state to make a decision fast.
“In 2007, the department had mooted the idea for a new road to be built parallel to Jalan Ayer Tawar at a cost of RM1.5mil.
“But having visited the location, I feel it is not very suitable as it passes through housing estates and certain sections of the roads are narrow,” he told reporters on site at Ayer Tawar town on Monday.
The other option, Dr Mah said, was to construct a new road along power transmission towers nearby Jalan Ayer Tawar.
“The proposed route is able to connect Ayer Tawar with Pantai Remis and if approved, will be a major economic boost to Pantai Remis.
“The allocation for the new road will come from the state government,” he said.
