Bandar Mahkota Cheras: Suhakam wants police to explain use of force. KUALA LUMPUR: A member of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) wants an inquiry into the alleged use of force by the police and Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel during the Bandar Mahkota Cheras fracas on Tuesday night.
Commissioner Datuk N. Siva Subramaniam said a 21-year-old mechanic, Chang Jiun Huar, was in hospital for injuries to his face and mouth when he and a friend were dragged from their car and beaten up by about 30 police and FRU men who alleged that the victim had tried to run one of them down with his vehicle.
Chang was at the wheel with his sister and two friends.
"The victim told me they were just passing by the place after having a drink at Bandar Mahkota Cheras when suddenly their car was surrounded by policemen and FRU personnel.
"He said the men started to kick his car, demanding that they get out, before they smashed the driver's side window.
"Chang and the others were dragged out of the car and he and a friend was assaulted," Siva said yesterday.
