Lack of parking space at the Serdang KTM station will soon be a thing of the past with plans for a three-tiered parking complex.
Serdang Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Liew Yuen Keong said the Government had finally agreed to address the problem.
“We are happy that a new parking building is being put up,” he said, adding that the Government and KTM have responded to the complaints of residents in this town of about 200,000 people.
Liew, MCA Wanita chief Chew Lee Giok and Serdang MCA division deputy chairman Datuk Hoh Hee Lee were in Serdang recently to explain the new initiative to ease parking problems at the station.
There are only 85 parking lots at the KTM station and because of lack of the space many motorists park along road kerbs and main road near the station.
“Commuters do not mind paying the RM3 per entry fee but there is little space for more vehicles,” he added.
More than 200 residents use the KTM Komuter daily and the station is also used as a bus hub for RapidKL buses.
Liew, who is also a MCA central committee member, and his party colleagues have been instrumental in bringing up the issue to the Government and KTM.
“Last year, I proposed to the Transport Ministry about the space shortage at the station.
“After many meetings, the ministry and KTM agreed last month to put up the three-tiered parking complex,” he said.
Liew said the project was in the tendering process now.
