KUALA LUMPUR: The additional fee charged when using the Touch ’n Go card for ticketless parking will soon be a thing of the past, said CIMB Group chief executive Datuk Seri Nazir Razak.

The service – available at nearly 50 locations including shopping centres, hospitals and hotels – currently imposes a fee to cover the maintenance and operational cost of the system.

Nazir said the company would introduce several measures, including the removal of the additional fee for parking, increasing the number of retailers allowing Touch ’n Go payments and enhancing the system’s IT and infrastructure, in an effort to increase Touch’n Go usage.

“Among the improvements we are looking at is to introduce the ability to transfer balances between cards owned by members of the same family.

“We are in the process of finding a vendor to make these upgrades,” he said, adding that CIMB and Touch ’n Go would be investing RM200mil in the exercise.

He said there were currently 9.2 million Touch ’n Go cards in use.

CIMB Group is a majority stake holder in Touch ‘n Go with a 52.22% stake in the company.

Touch ’n Go chief executive officer Abdul Karim Md Lassim said the usage of Touch ’n Go had increased steadily and now accounted for more than 50% of toll payments made around the country, and 70% of toll payments in the Klang Valley.

“It is also becoming an increasingly popular method to pay fares on public transport, especially among RapidKL bus commuters,” he said.

Usage of Touch ’n Go on RapidKL buses had increased to 70%, up from 2% last year and up to 21%, from 12% in 2010 for rail-transit commuters.
