JOHOR BARU: Motorists travelling to Singapore via the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) will have to pay toll both ways next year but the quantum has yet to be determined.
Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd CEO Datuk Mohamed Razeek Hussain said the Cabinet would announce the toll charges by next year.
“The toll booth will be located within the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex itself,” he said here yesterday.
Currently, motorists going to Singapore do not have to pay any toll and only pay RM2.90 when heading back to the country.
Asked if local motorists commuting to Singapore daily would be offered discounts or subsidies, Mohamed Razeek said they would still have to pay.
“The toll will be reasonable and only apply to those travelling via the CIQ to and from Singapore.
“The EDL, however, is free for motorists travelling within Johor Baru itself.
“The link is also aimed at reducing congestion and shortening travelling time for motorists,” he said.
He said there were several exits along the 8.1km elevated three-lane link like exits to Stulang Darat, Bakar Batu, Desa Pandan and Permas Jaya.
“We expect about 70,000 motorists to use it,” he said, adding that the RM977mil link is expected to open in February.
