Unclaimed TNG card rebates

KUALA LUMPUR: A whopping RM111mil - that is how much motorists are foregoing by not collecting their 20% monthly rebates for their Touch n Go cards.

The electronic toll collection operator had been giving out 20% rebates since September 2009 to those who use their cards at least 80 times a month at any highway.

Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said a total of 163,000 Touch n Go (TNG) card holders qualified for the government-sponsored frequent travellers programme.

“We have given out rebates totalling RM47.7mil as of January this year since the programme was launched.

“But the total that has yet to be claimed is RM111mil. Maybe some do not need the rebate or have forgotten to do so. The Government wants to help reduce motorists' burden,” he said after launching the KL-Kuala Selangor Expressway (Latar) at the Taman Rimba Templer toll plaza here yesterday.

The rebate, Shaziman said, would encourage more motorists to shift from cash to the more efficient electronic toll payment which helps reduce traffic congestion.

The 20% rebate could be redeemed via card reloads at all 136 TNG sales counters but not at Petronas stations. Card holders must first register at https://privilege.touchngo.com.my/.

On Latar, Shaziman said it was now open and would be toll-free until Aug 31.

“I have asked the concessionaire to extend beyond the one-month free trial period for the benefit of motorists especially since Ramadhan is around the corner.

“The dual-carriage highway, which is 33km long, will reduce travel time from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Selangor by almost an hour. Before, it takes about one-and-a-half hours on the federal road but now it will only take about 30 to 40 minutes with Latar.

“It will also provide easier access to tourist attractions such as the Kuala Selangor fireflies sanctuary,” he said.

The highway, which is part of the KL Outer Ring Road plan, will also give motorists access to the North South Expressway, the Guthrie Corridor and the proposed 268km West Coast Highway with details expected to be finalised by the end of this year.

There are three tolls for Latar, namely the Assam Jawa toll, east and west toll and the Taman Rimba Templer toll.

Longer periods to redeem Touch N Go rebate

Postby admin » Wed Oct 12, 2011 7:48 am

KUALA LUMPUR: Touch 'n Go card users can now redeem toll rebates under the 1Malaysia Frequent Travellers Programme for longer periods every month - from the 1st to the 9th and from the 15th to the end of the month.

Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Abdul Karim Md Lassim said the offline period would only be from the 10th to the 14th.

This convenience is extended to the card users following a recent upgrading to the operating system, he said in a statement.

Previously, redemptions could only be made from the 5th to the 15th and 23rd to the end of the month, with two periods when the system was offline.

Abdul Karim said the toll rebate, introduced in September 2009, offers highway users using the Electronic Toll Collection System (Touch 'n Go) a 20 per cent toll rebate redemption, provided they record a total usage of 80 times per month.
