PETALING JAYA: Traffic management has been upgraded at the Peyurainan Trafik KL Barat Sdn Bhd (Sprint) and Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) highways.
Improvements made to the Traffic Control and Surveillance System (TCSS) include adding about 15 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the two highways.
"The TCSS, launched three years ago, is a master control centre which receives and disseminates information to ensure motorists reach their destinations safely and quickly," said TCSS senior controller Abd Rahman Abd Hamid.
He said the TCSS had succeeded in reducing road accidents and traffic congestion.
"About 60 serious accidents resulting in eight fatalities were recorded for this month at Sprint. Similarly, the LDP had 164 serious accidents with 12 fatalities.
"There is a 10 per cent reduction in the number of accidents compared with December last year."
Under the system, a 24-hour monitoring centre receives live feed from cameras placed along the highways.
This information is fed to the message boards erected along highways to inform motorists of the traffic conditions, said Sprint chief executive officer Sazally Saidi at the Sprint TCSS open day yesterday.
He advised motorists to contact the Sprint helpline at 03-74947333 in case of an emergency.
