Move to improve traffic system in Bandar Puteri
During a site visit, Tan noticed that the motorists were ignoring the no entry signs in front of Giant Hypermarket in Jalan Puteri 1/1.
The street was changed to a one-way route last year and shoppers are required to travel further along Lebuh Puteri before making a U-turn back to Jalan Puteri 1/1.
As such, shoppers exiting the hypermarket can no longer get into Jalan Puteri 1/5 directly to reach the traffic lights but many are still doing so for convenience.
Tan said some motorists gave the excuse that they did not see the no-entry signs and as such had proposed to relocate one of the signs to a more noticable spot.
The hypermarket should also look into altering the location of its entrance and exit.
“At a meeting with the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), residents and IOI Properties (the developer of this commercial area), Giant said it could not move its entrance and exit yet as the roads behind the hypermarket were not ready,” he said.
Both its exit and entrance are facing Jalan Puteri 1/1 with the exit nearer to Jalan Puteri 1/6 and entrance nearer to Jalan Puteri 1/5.
However, many shoppers do not abide by the signs and prefer to go against the traffic.
After a discussion with the MPSJ engineering department representatives present at the site visit, Tan said the department would conduct a traffic study in this area.
“Based on the study and traffic impact assessment, we will then finalise the details on how to improve the traffic system, and hopefully we can implement the new system in May,” he said.
