PETALING JAYA: Flash floods broke out in various parts of the Klang Valley yesterday afternoon following a downpour.

Traffic came to a standstill in Kota Damansara when part of Persiaran Surian was submerged.

Motorists were forced to watch helplessly as only heavy vehicles were able to plough through the flood.

Damansara Sunway resident Ong Guat Choo, who contacted The Star, said muddy water rose up to 1.5m near her shoplot.

“A bus and lorry were stuck in the mud and caused a massive traffic jam in the area. The gushing flood water has flushed out debris from the monsoon drain and strewn it all over the road,” she said.

In Kampung Chempaka, the water from a nearby river overflowed its banks causing flooding that affected six old shops and 10 houses. The water receded within 15 minutes.

The storm also uprooted a tree in Kota Damansara, which was cleared within 30 minutes by the Petaling Jaya City Council’s Quick Response Team.
