KLANG residents can hope for a third bridge to be built over the Klang River with the federal government adopting the river beautification and development programme under its National Key Economical Area plan.

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is confident the bridge project would be a reality in the near future.

He said the federal government’s move to adopt the river project was already a positive sign.

Khalid said the river project had been named River of Life by the federal government.

“We will continue with our

efforts to persuade the federal

government to include the bridge as part of the National Key Economic Area,’’ he said.

Khalid said it was heartening

that many places in Selangor had been adopted under the economic area plan by the federal government.

The third bridge, which was planned during the Barisan Nasional government, is expected to offer a permanent solution for the traffic problems in the town.

It will complement the existing bridges, Jambatan Kota and Jambatan Musaeddin.

Jambatan Kota provides a direct route for traffic from Port Klang to the Federal Highway while Jambatan Musaeddin serves traffic within the town, connecting Jalan Tengku Kelana and Jalan Batu Tiga Lama.
