Four lanes again after expansion project is completed
According to Besraya (M) Sdn Bhd general manager Wan Salwani Wan Yusoff, now one lane is being used for the construction of the Besraya Eastern Expansion (BEE) project and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for its flyover.
“We are now in Phase Two and the road will be made free again,” Wan Salwani said.
She said they should be moving on to Phase Three in May for the elevated portion of the expressway.
The one-lane stretch causes traffic to slow down because of heavy machinery used for the construction work.
“We also have our construction and patrol team checking on the traffic conditions,” Wan Salwani said, adding that all their traffic management plans are approved by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).
“LLM monitors the project weekly,” she added.
The Besraya Eastern Expansion project will provide an alternative route for traffic from the east of Kuala Lumpur heading south along the Sungai Besi Highway, bypassing the congested Middle Ring Road 2.
“Those on Jalan Istana will also have the option of taking the BEE towards the highway or directly to Ampang,” she said.
She said the proposed route to Pandan Indah would have 12 access points, including the interchange in Taman Ikan Emas.
“BEE will have four links — Jalan Istana Link, Besraya Link, MRR2 Link and Pandan Link,” she added.
She said the expressway consisted of elevated parts and areas that would join existing roads that would be widened.
She added that the Pandan Link was still under revision and the route was only a proposed one, pending approval from all relevant parties.
“This link features three access points, all along Jalan Pandan Indah within the Ampang Jaya municipality,” Wan Salwani said.
BEE will also have a 20-lane toll plaza and the rate will be decided upon later.
