RM120mil flyover to be built in Bukit Mertajam by 2013
State Public Works, Utilities and Transportation Committee chairman Lim Hock Seng said the 500m-long road project, to be undertaken by the Public Works Department (JKR), was provided for under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
“This road, which will cut across Jalan Permatang Batu, is necessary to accommodate the construction of KTM Berhad’s double-tracking railway project nearby.
“The present level-crossing on this road will be closed in two months’ time and temporarily shifted a few metres away,” he said outside the state assembly in George Town on Monday.
Lim said JKR was presently preparing the road project’s design and tender for it would be called soon.
He said he hoped the road project would be ready in time when the double-tracking project was completed in 2013.
Earlier, in his winding up speech inside the assembly hall, Lim said the state would re-apply for an allocation of RM14.57mil from the Federal Government to build a bridge connecting Jalan Teluk Ipil and Pekan Tanjung Berembang in Nibong Tebal.
“The state is fully aware that this bridge is vital to bring about economic growth in Nibong Tebal town.
“We had earlier applied for necessary funds under the 10th Malaysia Plan but it was rejected,” he said.
Lim said he would resubmit a fresh application for the funds under the 10th Malaysia Plan’s mid-term review soon.
