KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Highway Authority and the Public Works Department are working together to ensure greater road safety during the Hari Raya period.
Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said the PWD was told to conduct preventive maintenance on roads and slopes.

"Concessionaires have been told to open all toll booths and provide extra counters.

"They have also been told to provide extra personnel at rest areas and toll plazas."

Zin said this when launching PLUS's "Selamat di Jalan" road safety campaign yesterday.
He said road concessionaires would work with security agencies to place emergency response teams at 15 locations to help motorists in trouble.

Tow trucks will also be made available to ensure stalled vehicles are taken off the road.

"Often, while most people are celebrating Hari Raya with their family and friends, others are mourning the loss of loved ones.

"I hope we can reduce the number of deaths this year."
