KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 2,452 motorists have been issued summonses by the Road Transport Department since the rear seat belt ruling came into effect on Jan 1.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said summonses were issued to motorists nationwide for not buckling up their passengers.

"These figures were recorded in the first 13 days of the year," he told reporters after launching the Chinese New Year Road Safety campaign in KL Sentral yesterday.

He also said that the speed limit for all federal and state roads would be reduced from 90kph to 80kph and from 80kph to 70kph, respectively.
