Heavy vehicles banned from urban stretches of highways
PETALING JAYA: In a bid to ease traffic congestion during morning peak hours, heavy vehicles will be banned from using busy urban stretches of highways from Aug 2.
These vehicles need to stay off the designated stretches from 6.30am to 9.30am on weekdays.
The routes involved are the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) between Shah Alam and Jalan Duta, the North South Expressway (NSE) between Sungai Buloh and Bukit Lanjan and Federal Highway Route 2 (FHR2) between Subang and Sg Rasau.
"Slow movement of heavy vehicles is one of the main contributing factors to traffic congestion along these routes especially during the peak hours.
“The situation is made worse when these heavy vehicles are stranded on the highway due to breakdowns and accidents.
"With this restriction, we expect the morning peak congestion will be eased,” said PLUS Expressways Berhad managing director Noorizah Hj Abd Hamid.
Heavy vehicles, laden and unladen, weighing 10,000kg and above would not be permitted along these routes during the three-hour ban, she said PLUS Expressways Berhad managing director Noorizah Hj Abd Hamid.
She advised heavy vehicle operators to use the parking facilitates provided at certain rest and service areas on the highway during the ban period before continuing their journey.
