PETALING JAYA: The concessionaire of the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) and Sprint Highway is looking into setting up more variable message signs (VMS) to keep motorists updated on traffic conditions.

Lingkaran Trans Kota Holdings Bhd (Litrak) chief executive officer Sazally Saidi said there were about 20 VMS along both LDP and Sprint currently and the company was reviewing its facilities.

“If there is any need to add more VMS or even relocate the current VMS to more strategic locations, we will do so in compliance with the ministry.” he told reporters at a three-in-one campaign for road safety, Merdeka Day celebration and Ramadan charity on Wednesday.

This was in line with Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor’s recent call on concessionaires to set up more VMS.

Sazally also said the company was ready to work with other concessionaires to provide traffic information more effectively.

“Currently, most of the VMS only shows information along their respective highways,” he said, adding that the joint effort would see information like traffic congestion also displayed at other highways’ VMS to help divert and ease congestion areas.

“I think all concessionaires are prepared for it (cooperation in disseminating information),” he said, adding that they were waiting for the green light from the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), which was the centre of information.
