GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Hill funicular train is encountering problems, again, after reopening on April 25 following a RM73mil upgrade.

The service had grounded to a halt for 26 hours from May 3 to May 4 due to a mechanical failure.

Now, it's an electrical problem, said Penang Hill Corporation general manager Datuk Lee Kah Choon.

“The service in still in operation but without air-conditioning. All remedial work will be carried out after the service is closed for the day,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Passengers were, however, being turned away at the bottom station and a check showed that the trains were only ferrying passengers down the hill.

When contacted later, Lee confirmed that the trains were only bringing passengers down.
